The Story Behind Komunardů XXXV
The Komunardů 35 project was built on the site of two houses destroyed by the 2002 floods. The new building has become a landmark of Holešovice, bringing modern residential and commercial spaces to the district.
The design is the work of renowned Czech architect Stanislav Fiala, celebrated for his originality and ability to combine modern urban style with natural elements. The building is defined by its industrial-inspired appearance, bold shapes, and green terraces.
Holešovice, originally an industrial and commercial district, is today one of Prague’s fastest-developing neighbourhoods. It offers cultural venues, galleries (such as the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art), cafés, parks, and modern residential projects.
Komunardů 35 is thus not only a residential building but also part of the broader transformation of the district, combining its industrial heritage with new urban culture.
Its nomination for Building of the Year 2021 underlines the project’s importance for contemporary architecture and urban development in Prague.
